- Jackie Leven - This Haunted Year: Autumn - Greek Notebook/Only The Ocean Can Forgive (Cooking Vinyl)
Review of the final instalment of the Haunted Year series. Davies describes Greek Notebook as 33 sketches (“Island”) from Walkman recordings made over seven years on Astypalea – interesting as an insight into the working process, more for completists.
- JACKIE LEVEN greek notebook
Short blog entry: reproduces Leven's English booklet note on “Greek Notebook” (1999) and adds two Greek sentences – fans of the rare acid-folk album “Control” (here: Movieplay 1975) would find Leven's Greek connection in “Greek Notebook”; a significant artist to be discovered.
- The Haunted Year: Autumn
Needs describes Greek Notebook as Walkman sketches from a remote Greek island – perhaps the most unconventional item in Leven's catalogue, but a fascinating glimpse into the creative process.
- Jackie Leven – Only The Ocean Can Forgive/Greek Notebook
Review of the double CD from the “Haunted Year” series (release date according to the page 01.12.2009): three studio tracks (including “Autumn Song”) and six live tracks from Cologne and Frankfurt 2003, including “Barefoot Days” with Kevin Hewick and Joe Shaw; the second CD gathers Walkman sketches from the Greek islands.
- JACKIE LEVEN I've passed away from human love…
Blog post by the Greek critic Fontas Troussas: translates Leven's booklet note for “Greek Notebook” (seven years each May and September on Astypalea), recounts how, through the Korean reissue of “Control” (2002, Merry-Go-Round/Beatball, 500 LPs, with liner notes by Leven), he learned that John St. Field is Leven, and reviews “The Haunted Year / Spring” (Celtic Soulmen; The Stornoway Girls with Kevin Hewick, Dan Britton, Lee Allatson) and “Lovers At The Gun Club” (recorded in Wales, one of his most “American” albums, with a Kenneth Patchen setting and a David Childers song). Overall verdict: very positive. Mentions earlier Leven reviews on the blog and in “Jazz & Τζαζ”.
