Sturminster Marshall, Dorset

Lying there on his back, sensing that there was no approaching car, he saw the full yellow moon seeping across the slumbering village of Sturminster Marshall, and for the first time in a long long time, heard himself think 'it's nearly good to be almost alive'

Jackie Leven, The Deep Pool, September 2004

A fall from his bicycle, at night, on the way home from the pub along a Dorset lane. Leven had come south out of what he called the maelstrom of living dangerously in the North; the band, the attack and the heroin were all still ahead of him. More than thirty years later he described this moment as his first peace.
