Jackie Leven – Straight Outta Caledonia… The Songs Of Jackie Leven

Rating 9/10. Dale recounts how the compilation came about: Night School boss Michael Kasparis got to know Leven through label artist Molly Nilsson, who in the liner notes calls “The Sexual Loneliness of Jesus Christ” the best song ever. He warns against reading the songs only through Leven's biography and highlights the different sides (troubadour, folk singer in the line of Dick Gaughan, soul in “Irresistible Romance”). The 1990s production, he says, gives the songs a peculiar “spectrality”.
