Album reviews: The Wanderer - A Tribute to Jackie Leven | Hamish Hawk | Saint Etienne | Common

Lead item of a round-up review (four stars): Shepherd hails the tribute album curated by Michael Weston King for the tenth anniversary of Leven's death as a heartfelt homage that casts fresh light on Leven's “underrated” catalogue. She highlights the contributions, mostly recorded in stripped-back form during the pandemic – James Yorkston (Empty in Soho Square), Kathryn Williams, Boo Hewerdine, Ralph McTell, Eliza Carthy, The Membranes (More Than Human by Doll by Doll), Tom Robinson, Rab Noakes (Poortoun) and Ian Rankin, who recites Edinburgh Winter Blues with Dean Owens. She names Deborah Greenwood's Universal Blue as the strongest contribution.
