Preview of two Bergen appearances: on 07.03.2003 at the small venue Madam Felle and on 08.03. (International Women's Day) at Bergen Landsfengsel. Leven says he was addicted to heroin and knows what it means to be an outlaw; he is looking forward to the prison concert. The prison's leisure activities manager, Frode Trefall, calls it a big thing to have a “world name” as a guest and expects lively interest from the prisoners.
Bergen has a special place in his heart, he says; the atmosphere reminds him of Scotland, and he mentions Bergen in at least one song on every new album. On the guests on Shining Brother Shining Sister (David Thomas, Ron Sexsmith, Robert Bly): none of them is ordinary, all are difficult, and that is exactly what makes them exciting; Sexsmith was at first afraid of him because of his past. He says he himself worked in a London women's prison, looking after women whose children were growing up without fathers and needed male values. He understands people who prefer alcohol or drugs to television (he himself is at times addicted to television), but has no time for state intervention – one has to want to stop oneself. Today he drinks alcohol in moderation and has his own whisky, Leven's Lament. The album had received 5 out of 6 in BA.
Summary in our own words; for the exact wording see the original.
Jeg var hektet på heroin og vet hva det vil si å være fredløs.
Bergen har en helt spesiell plass i mitt hjerte.
