The Drammen newspaper Fremtiden hails the mini-album Songs from the Argyll Cycle (distributed in Norway by Amigo) under the headline “An incredible comeback!” Twelve years after his last album, the reviewer had never believed this would be possible. He recounts that Leven lived a hard life with alcohol and heroin that brought him close to an overdose, followed by a brutal assault on London's streets in which he was nearly strangled. The attempted strangling, he says, damaged Leven's vocal cords in the mid-1980s.
Leven, “an incredible singer and songwriter with gypsy blood in his veins” (the text's words), led the hottest band on London's club circuit in 1978–79; Doll By Doll made “three fantastic albums” (in fact four), and it is a strong feeling to hear that the magic is still completely intact. The five very varied songs tell “more than a book about feelings and hope”. The mini-album is also a thank-you to his Scottish roots; a full album follows in the summer, and the reviewer awaits the sequel with great excitement.
Summary in our own words; for the exact wording see the original.
Doll By Doll lagde tre fantastiske album, og det er en sterk følelse for meg å høre at magien er helt inntakt fremdeles.
Dette er fem svært varierte melodier som forteller mer enn en bok om følelser og håp.
