Concert review in the Madrid daily Ya under the headline "Folk-rock escocés" (Scottish folk rock). It has been reconstructed only from snippets of the BNE full-text search, so the wording is incomplete.
The critic reports that John St. Field came to Madrid without any publicity, almost unnoticed. He calls him an excellent Scottish folk rocker whose album had recently come out on the Spanish market. St. Field played at La Boîte to a small but knowledgeable audience. He performed without a backing band, with only a steel-string guitar and his voice. Few dare to do that, and St. Field manages it "more than well". His line runs, if distantly, parallel to Cat Stevens, but St. Field's music and delivery are much harder: he is a man of cutting expression, very inventive and technically accomplished as well. Successful performances of "Dog Star" and "Dune Voices", both songs from "Control", are singled out. The article says explicitly that St. Field was in Spain to present this record and that he played songs from "Control". A passage on his background mentions some thirty concerts and the recording of the "great album" "Control"; the context of that figure (where and when) is not preserved in the snippets.
Tone: very positive.
