Kris Needs' first encounter with Doll by Doll, hurriedly slotted into the issue: while Steve Hillage plays the Friars Club, he sees the band in front of 40 to 50 people in the back room of a pub in Aylesbury that presents up-and-coming bands on Wednesdays as the “Acne Club”. After the set Leven apologises to the audience for what he says was a bad night; Needs is overwhelmed, makes cautious comparisons with the Stranglers, Television and West Coast rock, and stresses the band's originality. He mentions the titles “Guts” and “Butcher Boy”, that the band live in a London squat, donate their fees to an American charity and have turned down record companies, and announces a major profile for the next issue (the later piece in ZigZag No. 92). Tone: hymnic.

Summary in our own words; for the exact wording see the original.
