Lore (Jackie Leven and David Thomas)

On 7 April 2023 Bandcamp carries the album Lore (Jackie Leven and David Thomas), a 12-track release under the UbuDoll label. The accompanying text reads: Jackie Leven and David Thomas in concert on 17 May 1999 at the Hôtel du Nord, Paris. “Magic happened.” Thomas has kept several of the original recordings of their shows, but this was the one he chose to put out in refined form.

The track list names ten pieces: “Perfumed Road”, “Cry For Me”, “Green River Under A Morbid Sky”, “Working Alone / A Blessing / Deer Blinks”, “I’m Working Now”, “Man In Darkness”, “C’est Lui C’est Lui”, “Down By Weird River”, “Gershwin For A Dying Man” and “Bus Into Millennia”, plus the extras “Approximately Wig Alley” and “Brunswick Parking Lot”. Personnel: David Thomas on vocals, melodeon and percussion; Jackie Leven on vocals, guitar and percussion.

According to the credits all songs were written by David Thomas (Hearpen Music) except “Working Alone / A Blessing” and “I’m Working Now”, which are by Leven (Warner/Chappell). A supporter comments that, as a huge fan of both, he finds it “absolutely essential” and thanks Thomas. The page itself offers nothing on the quality of the performance beyond its description and credits.
