CD JUNKIE #215: DOLL BY DOLL (JACKIE LEVEN, PART 1)

14-minute collector's video by the US journalist Stephen Schnee on the four Doll by Doll albums, with a medley at the end. He tells how in 1979/80, as a record buyer in Los Angeles, he came across “Remember” and “Gypsy Blood”, describes the band as uncategorisable between new wave and rock, calls “Gypsy Blood” the emotional masterpiece and entry-point album, the self-titled third album the most melodic (released in the US on MCA) and “Grand Passion” the weakest, with its dated production. Tone: enthusiastic recommendation.
