Roy Warne’s letter supplements Robin Denselow’s Guardian obituary of Leven of 16 November 2011, which had mentioned his story-telling prowess. He recalls an anecdote Leven told between songs at a concert a few years earlier: he was staying in digs in Blackpool and was being ribbed by his landlady about his Scottish origins. Scots, she said, were mean and had no sense of humour. He asked for some honey with his breakfast toast and received a minuscule portion on a saucer. His reply: “Thank you. I see you keep a bee …”

Summary in our own words; for the exact wording see the original.

"Thank you," said Leven. "I see you keep a bee …"
