Detailed track-by-track review of the last studio album, which Leven recorded alone with Michael Cosgrave in the latter's studio on Dartmoor. Davies considers the leaner album equal to Lovers at the Gun Club and Fairytales for Hardmen, and singles out “To Live and Die in Levenland”, “Townes at the Borderline” (a memory of Townes Van Zandt) and “Beware Soul Brother”, which he links with the death of Leven's younger brother. According to the accompanying text, the songs were written mostly in German hotel rooms. No star rating, clearly positive overall.

Summary in our own words; for the exact wording see the original.

a musically slimmer album perhaps but certainly up there with Lovers At The Gun Club

Overall verdict at the start.
