Disappointed review by a self-declared admirer: after a longer appreciation of Leven's presence and music (large parts taken verbatim from Matland's concert review of 04.03.2000), it says Creatures of Light and Darkness is more heavily arranged than before; the overweight instrumentation slows dynamics, drive and commitment. Even the flirtation with Norwegians in “Rainy Day Bergen Women” and the idiosyncratic “The Sexual Loneliness of Jesus Christ” do not save the album; if the music does not carry, the words do not catch either.
