Preview of the UbuDoll concert on 23.11.2000 at Garage, according to the paper their third concert together. Leven promises to “break all the rules”. On David Thomas: one of the great American artists of the present, with a mysticism that many great musicians lack; both have a short fuse. He says he met him when he found out that Thomas lived on the English west coast – he phoned him because they were on the same label, they drank a lot of cognac and walked Thomas's dogs on the beach.
Leven says that on the night of the concert he should actually have been in Scotland at the “Spirit of Scotland” awards, where he is nominated as an ambassador of Scottish art; he doubts he will win and chooses Bergen – typical of him to be Scottish abroad and never popular at home. Scottish television made the documentary “East Coast Boy, West Coast Man” about him, filmed all over Scotland, plus a concert in Glasgow; since then he has no longer been “Jackie who?”. He recorded Defending Ancient Springs in Wales with an almost blind sound engineer with phenomenal hearing; the record sold well in Europe. Right after New Year he is going back into the studio with the same musicians and David Thomas. A second piece carries a short interview with Thomas (47), who thinks he remembers having been in Norway once before in the 80s.
