Jackie Leven – Fairy Tales For Hard Men (Cooking Vinyl)

Benevolent review with a rating of 5 (out of 6): Leven has learned from his mistakes, and on the album a “knowing man” speaks in small novellas about subjects men hardly talk about, without a raised finger or sentimentality. The album is demanding – because of the content, the Scottish-tinged English and the “crushing” sound samples. The highlight is “Old West African Song” (text of unknown origin) with African rhythms and Scottish tones; Jacobsen's poem sounds only with percussion. A note on the concert at Blå Rock on Sunday (06.04.).
