Report from the ZigZag birthday party at the Venue, London – excerpts on Doll by Doll

Excerpts from Kris Needs' report on the party for ZigZag's tenth anniversary at the Venue in London (June 1979). Doll by Doll play a specially put-together set of old pub numbers (“Stripshow”, “Honest Woman”, “Palace of Love”), are annoyed by the drinking, chattering audience and work themselves up to extreme volume; at the end Jo Shaw smashes a valuable guitar. The thank-you list stresses that the Doll by Doll crew (road manager Colin from the “Dolls House”) helped organise the party for weeks. Tone: enthusiastic and partisan.
