Jackie Leven: Live or Die in Bremen 1999 and 2004 4-CD set – the best £20 you'll spend this year

Jaygee, who only discovered Leven around 2006 and never saw him live, recommends the 4-CD box Live or Die (radio recordings from Bremen, solo in 1999 and with Michael Cosgrave in 2004; attributed in the thread to Proper Records) as the “best bargain of the year”, with “Jim O'Windygates” and “Classic Northern Diversions” as highlights. In the replies SteveT repeats his Midlands Arts Centre anecdote (“Wrapped Up In Blue” as an audience request commented on crudely) and his ticket for the Kitchen Garden Cafe shortly before Leven's death; he relays Michael Weston King saying that Leven seemed relaxed but was the most professional musician he had ever worked with on stage. Kaisfatdad last saw Leven in the back room of the Stockholm club Debaser.
