The Wanderer – A Tribute to Jackie Leven, Cooking Vinyl

The Glasgow Americana blogger Paul Kerr reviews the tribute album as a “labour of love”: 22 tracks, all Leven songs except Weston King's own homage The Final Reel and contributions from Levi Henriksen & Babylon Badlands and from Liam Carson with Knut Buen. He misses Leven himself; Weston King and Ian Rankin (with Dean Owens, Edinburgh Winter Blues) come closest. Highlighted are Deborah Greenwood, Boo Hewerdine, Kathryn Williams, Arksong, James Yorkston, Lou Dalgleish, Andy White, Johnny Dowd's “unhinged” Farm Boy and Rab Noakes' Poortoun. Positive overall; refers to Straight Outta Caledonia and the reissue of The Mystery of Love (November 2021).
