Straight Outta Caledonia (An introduction to Scotland's greatest singing, song-writing hidden gem)

Maxwell praises Leven for being able to sing about heroin addiction, single parenthood and Jesus's sexual loneliness without sounding gloomy. The selection is slim (fans would miss “Call Mother a Lonely Field”, for example) but wise; he places “Poortoun” alongside Billy Joel's “Allentown” and Springsteen's “Youngstown”. Verdict: an intelligent cross-section for newcomers. The page shows no visible star rating.
