Beneath Graeme Thomson's obituary (15.11.2011) there were around 30 reader comments up to March 2012; they are no longer visible on the live page today, but are complete in the Wayback capture of 2021. A Viennese fan (“Rodja”) learned the news through Michael Cosgrave's Facebook page; Leven's Vienna concert in September had been cancelled. Several commenters name the Southsea Folk and Roots Festival as a regular meeting place, others concerts in Otley, New Brighton, at the Green Man Festival, in Hebden Bridge, Glasgow, Stornoway (1990s) and at the Chimney Boy in Faversham.
Two entries come from Leven's professional circle: the documentary maker Mark Kidel says that Leven had seen his Channel 4 film Kind of Blue about melancholy and depression in the 1990s and invited him to show and discuss it at a centre for addicts in Marylebone; Kidel describes Leven's charisma and empathy with those affected. A musician who played on Leven's albums thanks him for introducing him to Yeats's line about the “rag and bone shop of the heart” (February 2012). A Belgian fan describes how in 2008, seriously ill, he set off at short notice for Leven's concert in Eeklo in order to shake his hand.
