Jackie Leven RIP

The forum thread “Jackie Leven RIP” in the “Other music” section has six posts between 15 November 2011 and 25 September 2012. The thread starter, Diane, first reports Leven's serious illness, copying the announcement from his website, and then his death, with the opening of the Guardian obituary.

One member recalls how Leven generously poured samples of his whisky for the whole audience at the Celtic Connections festival club in Glasgow. Diane says she once handed him her water bottle at a concert in Bournemouth, and praises the way he combined poetry with down-to-earth comedy. Another member reports on the funeral in Hampshire, where the celebrant mispronounced the name: “Leven” should rhyme with “grievin'”, after the river and the town in Fife. In 2012 Diane points to Paul Du Noyer's obituary.
