Positive short review: “Scotland's best-known Gypsy” has been delivering high-quality records since Doll by Doll in the late 1970s; after nearly dying in a street fight in the mid-1980s he fought his way back. On Gothic Road (12 tracks, 52:25) Ralph McTell, Michael Cosgrave, Kevin Foster and David Wrench take part; Leven remains rooted in folk and song traditions and delivers impressive lyrics. Highlights: “Absolutely Joan Crawford”, “Song for Bass Guitar and Death”, “John Paul Getty's Silver Cadillac”.
