Jackie Leven - Lovers At The Gun Club (Cooking Vinyl)

Davies agrees with Leven's own assessment that this is one of his best albums. He describes the title song with Johnny Dowd as lead voice (inspired by stories of a person called Shannon Doyle), “Olivier Blues”, the Kenneth Patchen setting “To Whom It May Concern”, “Fareham Confidential” and the closing piece “Heart in My Soul”, taken over from David Childers. Very positive: “idiosyncratic, intoxicating, fascinating and generous”.
