Doll By Doll – Gypsy Blood

Enthusiastic fan retrospective on the second Doll by Doll album (1979). Furgess recalls a strange Melody Maker interview from 1979 in which Leven admitted heavy LSD use in the band and claimed to hear voices and communicate with the dead – the reason he bought Remember. Gypsy Blood is one of his favourite albums of all time; he compares it with Traffic, John Cale, Moby Grape, Family and Love, and Leven's voice with a cross between Scott Walker and Tim Buckley, goes through it track by track (“Highland Rain” as the high point) and ends by noting that Leven has recovered from his heroin addiction and is touring again.
