JACKIE LEVEN: Night Lilies

Publication: Soundi
Author: Jussi Niemi
Date: November 1998
Language: Finnish
Access: Online

Top rating (5 out of 5) in the Finnish music magazine, issue 11/1998, put online (the website's dates are contradictory: 28.07.2007 in the artist list, 17.10.2012 in the article). Niemi knew Doll by Doll from the 70s and came late to Leven's solo work; Night Lilies combines Celtic roots with blues, rock, jazz and country, carried by tin whistle, fiddle and mandolin. Strongest are Leven's voice and the autobiographically tinged lyrics; a mature, timeless work with classic potential.
